The Astoria Argonauts inaugurated the 2034 campaign with a disappointing 12-5 loss to the Calgary Kodiaks at Golden Fleece Park. Calgary right fielder Colin Carpenter had a big impact on the outcome. He went 4-6 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The win was Pat Glass's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Rod Larcombe took the loss for Astoria.

The Kodiaks got a big at-bat from designated hitter Kitaw Malecela. For the game, Malecela was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Calgary a 2-0 lead.

"Glad to get this win," said Malecela. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
