Mustangs Squelch Caterpillars Offense in Shutout Win
|
Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Billings Mustangs were eager to watch Julio Rivera square off against Alan Gorringe of the visiting Peoria Caterpillars. In the end, the Mustangs won the game, 3-0, with Julio Rivera earning player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was Rivera, now 1-0. He tossed 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 2.
Ramón Márquez, who is rated as the 57th best prospect by BNN, aided the Billings cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder went 1 for 4.
Afterward, Mustangs manager Bill Martin was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
