The So Cal Republic topped the Dallas Texans, 6-4, in Roberto Clemente League action at House of the Republic. The player of the game was So Cal pitcher Phoenix Smith. So Cal reliever Lloyd Hunt picked up the win, upping his record to 7-2. Ashoka Pancholi was saddled with the loss. Pin-zhen Au was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 39 of 42 save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when pinch hitter Juan Villa drew a walk. The Republic went on to win.
"I like our moxie," said Republic manager Munenori Sato.
So Cal improves to 101-57 with the win. They lead their division by 10 games.
