Santa Fe Fuego starter Juan Mendoza turned in an exceptional performance against the Rubber City Rhinos at The Fire House, resulting in a Santa Fe win, 2-1. Santa Fe is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Yoshihiro Suzuki had a big run-scoring single for the Fuego in the bottom of the third inning. With Santa Fe leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from Tom Hanson and stroked the single to center. It was his 10th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Fuego ahead, 2-0.
"We were in it," said Rubber City manager Larry Johnson. "We just didn't score enough runs."
