Hornets Come Back Late, Nip Earthquakes
The Eureka Hornets beat the San Francisco Earthquakes, 7-6, at Golden Gate Park. The Hornets got a fine performance from second baseman Brian Delmont, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Eureka reliever Alim bin Umar picked up the win, upping his record to 8-9. Javier Galindo took the loss. Martin Blank was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 4 save opportunities.

The Hornets got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Mike Conard. For the game, Conard was 1-1 with a home run. In the top of the eighth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Eureka a 6-5 lead.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Stephen Jackson.

Eureka is now 64-74, San Francisco 53-85.
