The Portland Beavers topped the New England Colonials, 7-6, with designated hitter Steve Osburn playing a big role. Osburn went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs for the Beavers in the win. Sean Nichols, the winner, improved to 3-6. He held New England to 4 earned runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Olivier Martin notched his 40th save in 48 chances.
Had Robert Mentzer not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Mentzer hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Beavers.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Osburn told the Portland Daily.
Portland currently is in third place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division at 64-71.
