Taniguchi 4-4, Islanders Move to 86-49
|
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Tokuhei Taniguchi, the Hawaii Islanders defeated the So Cal Republic, 10-8. Taniguchi went 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Islanders. Allen Cox, credited with the win, is now 10-8. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 6.2 innings. Bernalldo Rocchi earned his 22nd save in 25 chances.
Katsuhiko Shimizu had a big run-scoring single for the Islanders in the bottom of the second inning. With Hawaii trailing 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Felipe Rodríguez and stroked the single to left. It was his 113rd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Islanders ahead, 2-1.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Taniguchi.
The Islanders bumped their record to 86-49 with this latest triumph.
