Colonials Clip Earthquakes, 3-2
|
Both teams had their chances, but the New England Colonials eventually prevailed at Skellington Stadium.
In a low-scoring clash between New England and San Francisco, pitcher James Akehurst was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned player of the game honors for New England in the 3-2 win. Akehurst picked up the win for New England, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 2-0.
Jeff Mitchell, who is tied for 8th in the RCL in home runs with 25, aided the New England cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third. For the game, the first baseman went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
San Francisco manager Joe Ward said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Colonials bumped their record to 65-65 with this latest triumph.
