Hops Score Late to Upend Tornadoes, 6-4
|
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Nadir Rizvi, the San Diego Hops defeated the Kansas City Tornadoes, 6-4. Rizvi was 1-1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Hops. San Diego reliever Bruce Berardi picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Pedro Galló shouldered the loss. Mitsuzuka Koyama notched his 22nd save in 28 chances.
Rizvi had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a full count fastball from Charlie Haydon, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Hops a 6-3 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Rizvi.
"I'm proud to wear a San Diego jersey," Rizvi told the San Diego Herald. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
With the win, San Diego has a record of 54-75. Kansas City falls to 49-77.
