Portland beat Rubber City on the strength of starter Felipe De La Hoya's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Olivier Martin got the save, his 34th in 41 chances. Portland bumps their record to 57-63 with the win.

The Beavers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Robert Mentzer. For the game, Mentzer went 2 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 122nd hit of the season gave Portland a 3-2 lead.

"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Mentzer told the Portland Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
