Georgia first baseman Tony Martinez had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Martinez was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, even as Vancouver beat the Grays, 5-4. Martinez was named the player of the game despite the loss. Vancouver reliever John Bunce picked up the win to move to 4-2. Stone Carlton suffered the loss. Vancouver is now riding a 4-game win streak.
The Pioneers got a big at-bat from left fielder Ruben Torres. For the game, Torres went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 23rd home run of the season gave Vancouver a 4-1 lead.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Torres.
