Santa Fe Fuego starter Juan Mendoza was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Eureka Hornets, 4-2. Mendoza picked up the win for Santa Fe, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 11-9. Jun'ichi Suzuki got the save, his 21st in 26 chances.
The Fuego got a big at-bat from catcher Luis Álvarez. For the game, Álvarez went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 13th double of the season gave Santa Fe a 1-0 lead.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Álvarez told the Santa Fe Herald.
The win boosts the Fuego to 47-55. The loss puts the Hornets at 47-55.
