Almost There: Hawaii On Cusp of R3 Triumph After 5-2 Win
|
The Hawaii Islanders moved to within one game of the ABL World Series today, downing the visiting So Cal Republic at Aloha Stadium by a score of 5-2. Islanders left-hander David Guzman was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Islanders a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 League Pennant.
The game hit a turning point in the bottom of the first inning, when the Islanders were trailing 1-0. Jim Burry delivered a two-out 2-run home run for Hawaii, catapulting his team into the lead.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Guzman told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow at Aloha Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Felipe Rodríguez for the So Cal Republic and Norogumi Yokoyama for the the Hawaii Islanders.
