Taniguchi, Islanders Wallop Republic in Game 1 of R3
|
The Hawaii Islanders started the League Pennant in style today, winning on the road against the So Cal Republic at House of the Republic by a score of 6-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Islanders first baseman Tokuhei Taniguchi was named player of the game after he went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice.
The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth when Taniguchi hit a solo home run. It propelled the Islanders into the lead, 2-1.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Taniguchi told reporters after the game.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at House of the Republic in Los Angeles. The scheduled starters for the game are Mikey Altman for Hawaii and Elias Bowen for So Cal.
