van Helvert, Minneapolis Start Triple A World Series Strong with Home Win
|
The Minneapolis Freeze started the Triple A World Series in style today, downing the visiting Fort Worth Cats at The Ice Box by a score of 9-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Freeze first baseman Rien van Helvert was named player of the game after he went 2-5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.
Minneapolis grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Jorge Barrera delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 5-4 in favor of the Freeze.
"We'll savor this win," van Helvert told the Minneapolis Today, "then get ready for the next game."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Ice Box. The scheduled starters for the game are Mark Edwards for the Fort Worth Cats and Jorge Olivo for the the Minneapolis Freeze.
