Blazers Edge Islanders 6-5 to Open R4
|
The Bloomington Blazers faced a tough opponent in Hawaii Islanders third baseman Jim Burry, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the ABL World Series, which they now lead 1-0. The Blazers won 6-5 at Aloha Stadium, despite the efforts of Burry, who went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once and was named player of the game.
Fernando Franco's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With no one out, he rapped a curveball from Bernalldo Rocchi for a run-scoring single. It put Bloomington in front, 6-5.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Franco said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Aloha Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Landy Lu for Bloomington and Ehrich Weiss for Hawaii.
