Miner Handcuffs Islanders, Stogies Seize 1-0 Advantage in R2
|
The Havana Stogies started the Divisional Championship in style today, winning on the road against the Hawaii Islanders at Aloha Stadium by a score of 5-2 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Stogies left-hander Peter Miner was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball.
Havana grabbed control in the top of the seventh. With no one out and the bases empty, Garin Renzenbrink delivered a solo home run, to make it 3-2 in favor of the Stogies.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Renzenbrink said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Aloha Stadium. Slated to start are Félix Ruíz for the Havana Stogies and Mikey Altman for the the Hawaii Islanders.
