The Rock River Rats got an exceptional performance from starter Jeff Stephens, who silenced the Wichita offense en route to a 8-0 shutout win in Game 3 of the Double A League Championship today. The Wolverines could never get a bead on the right-handed Stephens, who threw 9 innings of shutout ball to earn player of the game honors. The Rats now hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 series.

Stephens, a native of South Hill, Washington, was dealing all game. He kept Wichita hitters off-balance, while giving the Rats 9 quality innings. Stephens threw 120 pitches, allowing 5 hits and striking out 6.

"I just trusted my stuff," said Stephens.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Howling Park. The scheduled starters for the game are José López for the Rock River Rats and Magyver McKenzie for the the Wichita Wolverines.
