Almost There: San Angelo On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 6-4 Win
|
The San Angelo Mustangs moved to within one game of the Single A World Series today, downing the visiting Chippewa River Chiefs at Heartland Kettlecorn Stadium by a score of 6-4. Mustangs center fielder Barry Wirfel was named player of the game after he was 3-3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win gives the Mustangs a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Single A League Championship.
Jake Sandlin aided the San Angelo cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the designated hitter went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said San Angelo manager Clyde Bowman.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Heartland Kettlecorn Stadium. Slated to start are Troy Lamb for Chippewa and Dan Garcia for San Angelo.
