Road Win Lifts San Angelo to 1-0 Lead in R1
|
The San Angelo Mustangs faced a challenging opponent in Chippewa River Chiefs right-hander Mike Allamon, but did just enough to squeak out a 3-2 win in Game 1 of the Single A League Championship today. San Angelo now leads 1-0 in the best-of-7 series. The Mustangs won despite the River Chiefs getting an excellent start from starter Allamon, who allowed no earned runs at scattered 5 hits over 6.1 innings.
Had Jake Sandlin not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Sandlin hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Mustangs.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said San Angelo skipper Clyde Bowman. "I can't complain."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at The Reservation in Chippewa Falls. Slated to start are David Benitez for San Angelo and Jason Bouge for Chippewa.
