The St. Paul Grognards got a superb performance from shortstop Eddie Joost, but the Montreal Cardinals still won the game, 8-7. Joost was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 2-3 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Gabe Perkins notched his 12th save in 12 chances. The Cardinals have an impressive 40-22 record.

Jerry Vega found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing St. Paul hurler Ben Krupnik, the 20-year-old left fielder reached on an error by the second baseman, driving in 1 run. His 50th RBI of the season put the Cardinals on top, 8-7.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Koto Yamada said.
