Victory Over Storm Takes Normal to 43-21
|
Wichita got a terrific game from second baseman Mario Martinez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Normal, 7-5. Martinez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Nick Clouse was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 4 save opportunities. The Nutcrackers bumped their record to 43-21 with this latest triumph.
Mat Martin, who is tied for 2nd in the CFL in stolen bases with 13, aided the Normal cause with a 2-run single in the top of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Normal manager Richard Lawson.
