The Yuma Varmits beat the Sedona Sabercats, 12-5, at The Lair at Sabercat Field. Yuma left fielder Shamel Strickland earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The third-place Varmits have won 5 straight games.

Yuma used the bat of Jonathan Fitzwater to get the win. The shortstop hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Varmits ahead, 9-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"I like our moxie," said Varmits manager Adam Haddox.
