Grognards Lose, 4-2, at The Range
The Yuma Varmits defeated the St. Paul Grognards, 4-2, in Cecil Fielder League action at The Range, with Yuma left fielder Aaron Washington named player of the game. Chris Van Arsdale got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. The save was Brian Claphan's, his 6th.

Washington had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 fastball from Bill Daniels, he banged a grand slam home run to left-center, giving the Varmits a 4-2 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Washington.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Washington. "And not try to do too much."

The Varmits bumped their record to 23-19 with this latest triumph.
