The Yuma Varmits scored a 1-0 win versus the Paradise Island Pirates at The Range. Yuma pitcher Ferdinand Bevan nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Bevan, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Brian Claphan got credit for the save for Yuma. It was his 4th of the year.
The Varmits got a big at-bat from designated hitter Manuel Santiago. For the game, Santiago went 1-3 with a double. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 4th double of the season gave Yuma a 1-0 lead.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Paradise Island manager Julián Flores.
