Montreal right fielder Alberto Preciado was sensational. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. St. Paul beat the Cardinals, 10-7. Preciado was named the player of the game despite the loss. Bill Perez got credit for the save for St. Paul. It was his 3rd of the year. The 5th-place Grognards improved to 11-20.

The Grognards got a big at-bat from second baseman Tom Clayton. For the game, Clayton was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave St. Paul a 8-6 lead.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager John Rodney.
