Cardinals Score Late to Upend Grognards, 5-3
|
The Montreal Cardinals had to overcome a big game from St. Paul left fielder Felix Avila to leave The Thunderdome with a 5-3 victory. Avila went 3-3 with 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Montreal reliever Nick Davidson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Ben Krupnik was saddled with the loss. The Cardinals bumped their record to 19-10 with this latest triumph.
Diego Tapia, who leads the CFL in stolen bases with 11, aided the Montreal cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth. For the game, the center fielder was 1-4.
In postgame comments to the Montreal Gazette, Tapia said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
