Nutcrackers Edge Grognards, 2-1
|
The St. Paul Grognards got a superb performance from pitcher Tony Aaron, but the Normal Nutcrackers still won the game, 2-1. Aaron was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. The win was Jordan Little's in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Tony Aaron took the loss for St. Paul. Andy Kelly closed the door for Normal, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
The Nutcrackers got a big at-bat from left fielder Carlos Santos. For the game, Santos went 1-3 with a home run. In the top of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Normal a 2-1 lead.
Santos told a Normal Daily reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
Normal, now 5-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
