Tight Tilt Goes to Varmits, 4-3
|
The Nutcracker Suite was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Yuma Varmits and the Normal Nutcrackers.
Yuma starter Chris Costello had a strong outing against the Normal Nutcrackers at The Nutcracker Suite. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Costello went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 1-0. Earning his 1st save of the year was Pete Golding.
The Varmits got a big at-bat from first baseman Tommie Parsons. For the game, Parsons went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Yuma a 4-2 lead.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Varmits manager Adam Haddox. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Yuma, now 1-2, is off to a slow start.
