The Paradise Island Pirates got a superb performance from designated hitter Andrew Taylor, but the Normal Nutcrackers still won the game, 6-5. Taylor was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Normal reliever Nick Clouse, now 1-0. The loser was Curt Hargrave. Getting the save was Andy Kelly, his 1st.

A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when catcher Raul Padilla hit a single. The Nutcrackers went on to win.

"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Padilla, cracking a smile.

The Nutcrackers raised their record to 2-0.
