The Scottsdale Scorpions took Santa Barbara pitcher Antonio Rios's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Scottsdale Stadium. The final score had Scottsdale getting past the Suenos, 3-2. Rios went 8 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, striking out 7. Scottsdale reliever Timmo Brown picked up the win, bumping his record to 4-3. Antonio Rios was collared with the loss. Getting the save was Steve Higgins, his 15th.
In the bottom of the 6th, designated hitter Rob Bjorndahl gave Scottsdale the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Scorpions had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out single off Santa Barbara pitcher Antonio Rios changed that -- and Scottsdale went on to win.
Santa Barbara manager Jacob Carlson said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
Scottsdale now sits in 5th place in the Prince Fielder League Tony Fernandez Division at 21-28.
