Multi-HR Game for Gooch in 5-3 Win
|
Getting a good performance from shortstop Ryan Gooch, the Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Augusta Rail Riders, 5-3. Gooch slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Cyclones. Ricky Espinosa, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 8 innings. Mike Crawford picked up the save for Brooklyn, his 1st of the year.
With Brooklyn leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Gooch hit a cutter from Fernando Santana for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Cyclones ahead, 4-0.
"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Tommy McCain. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."
Brooklyn, now 3-5, is off to a slow start.
