San Angelo Mustangs manager Clyde Bowman knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 22-year-old right-hander David Benitez silenced the host Atlantic City Kings at The Royal Colosseum today. The Mustangs shut out the Kings by a final score of 6-0, to give the Mustangs a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Single A World Series.

Benitez, the San Angelo right-hander, went 7.1 innings, allowing no earned runs on 2 hits. He collected 5 strikeouts.

Benitez told a San Angelo Bulletin reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at The Royal Colosseum in Atlantic City. The scheduled starters for the game are Dan Garcia for San Angelo and Sergio García for Atlantic City.
