Missel, Colonials Wallop Stogies in Game 5 of R1
|
Already down in the Divisional Round, the New England Colonials put on their best show, beating the Havana Stogies by a final score of 5-4 today. Luppe Missel earned player of the game honors, as he was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. New England now trails Havana 3-2 in the best-of-7 affair.
The Colonials were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when right fielder Edgardo Bustamante turned a full count cutter from Felipe Arreola into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent a roar through the crowd and gave New England a thrilling 5-4 win.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Missel said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
Game 6 is scheduled for Saturday at The Humidor. The scheduled starters for the game are John Spracklin for the New England Colonials and Joe Hardy for the the Havana Stogies.
