Road Win Lifts Normal to 1-0 Lead in R1
|
The Normal Nutcrackers started the League Championship Series in style today, winning on the road against the Wichita Storm at The Storm Center by a score of 6-5 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Nutcrackers right-hander George Fawns was named player of the game after he came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters .
San Juan, Puerto Rico-born Daniel Pumarejo came through in the clutch. In the top of the fourth, with a runner on 1st and the Nutcrackers trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run home run to left to put Normal on top.
"We're happy," Pumarejo told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow. Slated to start are Jack Mainjer for Normal and Tony de la Cruz for Wichita.
