Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Cardinals, 5-2
|
The Montreal Cardinals moved to within one game of the Little League World Series today, downing the visiting Billings West Golden Bears at Nezahualcoyotl HS Grounds by a score of 5-2. Cardinals left fielder Jim Clifton was named player of the game after he was 3-4 with 3 singles and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win gives the Cardinals a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
Jim Goudeau aided the Montreal cause with a 2-run single in the bottom of the third. For the game, the second baseman was 2-5 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Goudeau said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
The next game is scheduled for Sunday at Guadalajara HS Grounds. Slated to start are Pat Hamilton for the Montreal Cardinals and Bill Henderson for the the Billings West Golden Bears.
