Pleasantville Panthers manager Bobby Lowenstein knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 15-year-old right-hander Edward Calvert silenced the host Montreal Cardinals at Nezahualcoyotl HS Grounds today. The Panthers shut out the Cardinals by a final score of 5-0, to give the Panthers a 4-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Little League World Series.

The Cardinals had trouble solving Calvert, who surrendered no earned runs on 7 hits over 8.2 innings.

"I liked his command," said Pleasantville manager Bobby Lowenstein. "Edward was throwing strikes."
