|
New England overcame a superlative game from Elijah Green to beat Brooklyn, 5-2. The Brooklyn pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Kenny Allen got credit for the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings. Juan Vázquez converted his 16th save in 19 tries.
The Colonials got a big at-bat from first baseman Jeff Mitchell. For the game, Mitchell went 1-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. In the top of the tenth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 20th home run of the season gave New England a 5-2 lead.
"Glad to get this win," said Mitchell. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
The Colonials go to 40-48, putting them 5th in the Roberto Clemente League William Atteberry Division.
