Late Rally by Panthers Secures Win
|
Derby withstood an impressive performance by Lerna right fielder Rich Stewart to defeat the Lions, 6-5, at Managua HS Grounds. Stewart went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. The Panthers saw their win-loss record go to 26-34. At the same time, the Lions fell to 27-33.
Fernando Benitez hit a run-scoring double off Nick Grisham in the bottom of the ninth, which put the Panthers in front, 6-5. In addition to the double, Benitez had 1 single, while going 2 for 5.
In postgame comments to the Derby Daily, Benitez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
