Tigers Win at Santa Clara, 2-1

The Tigers grabbed a win, 2-1, at River Otters Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Santa Clara pitcher Cory Baber. Baber went 8.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. The Tigers bumped their record to 28-28 with this latest triumph.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fifth inning when the Tigers sent teenager Chris Newman to the plate against Vampires hurler Cory Baber. With a runner on 1st and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a first pitch curveball to score 1.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped Santa Clara manager Juan Proenza. "Obviously."
