Behind a solid performance from right fielder Mike Nelson, the Montreal Cardinals defeated the Riverside Poly, 9-5. Nelson went 2 for 5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for the Cardinals. George Robison, credited with the win, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The Cardinals bumped their record to 30-16 with this latest triumph.

Nelson had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the tenth. On a full count fastball from B.J. Dyke, he banged a grand slam home run to right-center, giving the Cardinals a 9-5 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Nelson.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Nelson said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
