Hops Come Back Late to Clip Beavers
Portland shortstop Phil Kinch was sensational. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. San Diego beat the Beavers, 8-7. Kinch was named the player of the game despite the loss. The win was credited to Mitsuzuka Koyama in relief. His record improves to 6-3. Olivier Martin took the loss. The win boosts the Hops to 32-52. The loss puts the Beavers at 42-42.

Sean Hayward was the walk-off hero for San Diego. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hops second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Hayward said.
