Blockbuster Deal: Giles for Smith Friday, July 29th, 2033 In a trade of major proportions involving So Cal and the Cabo San Lucas Toreros, the Republic will acquire 32-year-old RHP Phoenix Smith and send 31-year-old RHP Albert Giles, 19-year-old minor league RHP Tomas Romirez and 17-year-old minor league RHP Lazaro Velez to Cabo San Lucas. "You have got to strike while the iron is hot," So Cal general manager Mike Brouillette told BNN. "Cabo San Lucas proposed the deal last night. I then spoke with our owner this morning and got the immediate go-ahead." Cabo San Lucas will retain a portion of Smith's remaining contract. Thus far this season Giles has saved 0 games. His won-lost mark is 3 wins and no losses with 32 strikeouts in 43.2 innings, along with a 1.24 ERA. So far this season, Smith has logged a 5-13 record with a 5.14 ERA.
