Islanders Walk It Off for 25th Win of Season
|
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Ben Collins, the Grand Island Islanders defeated the Francis Lewis Patriots, 8-5. Collins went 2 for 2 with a home run and 4 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Islanders. Grand Island reliever Paul Higgins picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-1. David Belke was collared with the loss. Grand Island has now won 3 in a row.
Collins had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the 12th. On a 2-2 curveball from David Belke, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Islanders a 8-5 lead. It was the 9th home run of the year for Collins.
"This game will make a man of you," said Doug Taylor, the Grand Island skipper, "if it doesn't kill you first."
