Multi-HR Game for Collins in 10-4 Win
|
The Grand Island Islanders defeated the Lerna Lions, 10-4, at Ballpark of Morelia HS. Grand Island left fielder Ben Collins was named player of the game for his superb performance. He belted 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Earning his 1st save of the year was Bryan Clayton. The Lions, at 16-25, have lost 4 straight games.
The Islanders got a big at-bat from designated hitter Ebbe Schmitz. For the game, Schmitz went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Grand Island a 4-2 lead.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Collins.
