McCarthy Excels, But Cardinals Win
Grand Island center fielder Kevin McCarthy had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 8-6, to Kearny High at Loggers Ballpark. McCarthy went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Kearny High reliever Mike Marshall was the winner. His record is now 4-0. J.D. Lindsey took the loss. The Cardinals raised their record to 19-16.

Kearny High took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With no one out, third baseman Pete Martin hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Martin said. "We did a good job of that today."
