Lions Win at Tenafly, 9-3
|
The Lerna Lions defeated the Tenafly Tigers, 9-3, at Ballpark of León HS. Lerna designated hitter Nate Wakeley was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Lerna starter Derek Stumpff was credited with the win after throwing 113 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 1-2. Lerna has now won 3 straight, while the Tigers have lost 3 in a row.
It could have been a different outcome for Lerna, had it not been for Logan DiPirro, the 16-year old catcher . DiPirro contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Lerna up, 1-0.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Wakeley, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
