Loss to Giants Extends Tokyo Yakult Losing Streak
|
The Yomiuri Giants relied on the hitting of left fielder Tomoharu Fujiyama to stop the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, 7-3. For the game, Fujiyama went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Kiyohira Nakayama, who threw 83 pitches over 5.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 2 runs on 4 hits. Tekkan Ishihara finished the game for Yomiuri and earned his 1st save.
Yomiuri relied on the bat of Akira Kaneko to get the win. The shortstop ripped a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Giants ahead, 3-2. For the game, Kaneko had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"We're in a funk right now," said Tokyo Yakult skipper Rob Lewis.
With the win, Yomiuri improves its record to 5-4.
