Giants Sneak Past Swallows, 5-4
|
The Yomiuri Giants bested the Tokyo Yakult Swallows by a score of 5-4, with shortstop Akira Kaneko getting the main credit. On the day, Kaneko went 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Giants. The win was credited to Tekkan Ishihara in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Hyun-sik Park took the loss. Getting the save was Kenshin Kawamoto, his 2nd.
Kaneko had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-1 cutter from Hyun-sik Park, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Giants a 5-4 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Kaneko.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Tokyo Yakult manager Rob Lewis said following the tough loss.
With the win, Yomiuri pushes its record to 3-4.
