Golden Eagles Score Late to Upend Lions, 3-2
|
The Saitama Seibu Lions got a superb performance from pitcher Jesus Ambriz. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Tohoku Rakuten. The Golden Eagles won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Ambriz was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 1-hit ball. Tsugunosuke Kunishige got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Chotaro Matsuno nailed down his 1st save.
Had Sang-your Choe not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Choe hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Golden Eagles.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Choe told the Tohoku Rakuten Herald.
The Golden Eagles have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 1st win in 6 games.
